This Regional Legislative Decree, consisting of five Chapters and 2 Annexes, creates the multi-municipal system of water supply and sanitation and the multi-municipal system of waste collection in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. It establishes exploitation and management of the water distribution system and sanitation in public service concession, including the following areas and activities: water supply for public consumption; collection of urban rain water and wastewater, etc. Fundamental objectives of the operation and management of the water supply system and basic sanitation are as follows: to contribute to the well-being of the population and to meet the public needs in the areas of water supply and sanitation, to promote necessary actions for a proper management policy of water resources.
