The main purposes of this Act, consisting of six Parts completed by two Schedules, are: (a) to establish Regional Development Victoria to facilitate economic and community development in rural and regional Victoria; and (b) to establish the Regional Development Advisory Committee to advise and assist the Minister in relation to policies, projects and issues related to rural and regional Victoria; and (c) to establish the Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund. In addition, it establishes composition, duties and responsibilities of the Regional Development Victoria, entitled to facilitate the following activities: new investment in rural and regional Victoria; operation and growth of existing businesses in rural and regional Victoria; creation of jobs within the private and public sectors in rural and regional Victoria; infrastructure development opportunities in rural and regional Victoria; the coordinated government programmes, services and resources in rural and regional Victoria; consultation between the public and private sectors and communities about economic and community development in rural and regional Victoria; promote rural and regional Victoria as a place to invest, work and live in; to report to the Minister about the state of rural and regional Victoria having regard to economic, social and environmental factors; to advise the Minister generally about matters relating to development in rural and regional Victoria and about any particular matters referred to Regional Development Victoria by the Minister; etc.
