The National Climate Change Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan is a national policy with a cross-sectoral approach. This National Climate Change Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan aims at integrating climate change adaptation into national, regional and local policies related to water resources management, agricultural production, food security, ecosystem preservation, biodiversity conservation, forest management, natural disaster risk management and public health. The capacities of R&D Centres will be increased and R&D and scientific studies will be developed to ensure adaptation and mitigation of effects of climate change on water resources, agriculture, protected areas, mountains, pastures, wetlands, land, landscapes, forests, agro-forestry, animal husbandry, aquaculture, genetic resources, ecosystems, biodiversity, renewable energy resources, marine and coastal areas. Data provided from the Agricultural Drought Crisis Centre and Soil and Land Database and Land Information System will be updated and integrated into the climate change information management system. This National Climate Change Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan underlines that the risks and threats of natural disasters and forest fires that may arise due to climate change will be identified and accordingly disaster management plans focusing on agricultural drought, flood, overflow, avalanches, landslides, etc. will be developed. Risk assessment, early warning system, monitoring and data sharing will be developed with a multi-hazard approach. An institution will be established for holistic management of water resources to ensure effective and efficient utilization of water, especially in agriculture and industry sectors. The resilience of livelihoods of farmers and forest villagers to climate change will be increased. Furthermore farmers, including women, will be trained on agricultural production techniques for adapting to the effects of climate change. With regard to adaptation alternatives in agriculture, interagency cooperation will be strengthened, institutional capacity will be developed and public-awareness will be raised. The existing policies, protocols and legislations will be updated to ensure adaptation to climate change.
