These Guidelines lay down harmonized pesticide regulation programme to reduce risks associated with pesticides, improve trade, safeguard crops, the environment, human and animal health, in compliance with agreement to implement a joint regional work plan on pesticide management with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. The objectives of these Guidelines are to harmonize the procedures of carrying out efficacy trials and reporting system on new pest control products in the region, and to promote mutual recognition of efficacy trial data and reports within the EAC. All new pest control products or new uses of existing pest control products shall be subject to efficacy trials which shall be approved by the national pesticide regulatory authority of the Partner States.
