The RAI-2009 Impact Assessment of PARPA II (2006-2009) made an in-depth analysis of the situation of chronic malnutrition in Mozambique and recommendations to accelerate progress towards its reduction in the country, having concluded that Chronic Malnutrition needs to be addressed urgently. Therefore, in October 2009 a high-level mission from the United Nations met with the Minister of Health and representatives of other ministries to discuss the nutrition situation in the country, and identify the next steps to be taken. At the meeting, it was agreed to hold a National Seminar with the aim of reaching consensus on a multisectoral Action Plan to combat chronic malnutrition in Mozambique. This seminar was held in March 2010 and culminated in the signing of a declaration of commitment between the Government of Mozambique, development partners, civil society and the private sector for an accelerated response to the prevention of chronic malnutrition in Mozambique. The Multisectoral Action Plan for the Reduction of Chronic Malnutrition in Mozambique 2011-2015 (2020) defines seven strategic objectives, each with expected results and activities already established. Strategic Objective 1: Strengthen activities with an impact on the nutritional status of adolescents. Strategic Objective 2: Strengthen interventions that impact the health and nutrition of women of childbearing age before and during pregnancy and lactation. Strategic Objective 3: Strengthen nutritional activities aimed at children in the first two years. Strategic Objective 4: Strengthen activities aimed at households to improve access to and use of food of high nutritional value. Strategic Objective 5: Strengthen the capacity of Human Resources in the area of nutrition. Strategic Objective 6: Strengthen national capacity to advocate, coordinate and manage the progressive implementation of the Multisectoral Action Plan for the Reduction of Chronic Malnutrition. Strategic Objective 7: Strengthen the food and nutrition surveillance system.
