A Biodiversity Outcomes Framework for Canada. Working together to sustain Canada’s Natural Assets and enrich the Lives of Canadians.

For more than ten years, federal, provincial and territorial governments have been working together to design a blueprint for the conservation and sustainable use of Canada’s living resources called the Canadian Biodiversity Strategy. The Biodiversity Outcomes Framework complements and builds on that work. It will be used to identify and link current and future priorities, to engage Canadians in planning and implementation and to report on progress. Starting from the Canadian Biodiversity Strategy's vision of a society that lives and develops as part of nature, values the diversity of life, takes no more than can be replenished and leaves to future generations a nurturing and dynamic world, rich in biodiversity, the Biodiversity Outcomes Framework's mission is that of working together to sustain Canada’s natural assets and enrich the lives of Canadians. The outcomes from conservation measures foreseen for each of such assets are healthy and diverse ecosystems, viable populations of species, genetic resources and adaptive potential and sustainable use of biological resources. Expected benefits from the conservation are outlined and so are the management processes, which comprehend the assessment through research and information, the planning by intergrating biodiversity outcomes in the interested sectors, the implementation and the monitoring and reporting.
