The Protocol on the Implementation of the Fisheries Partnership Agreement between the Republic of Cape Verde and the European Community (2025-2029) was signed in Brussels on 23 July 2024, under the Fisheries Partnership Agreement, concluded between the two parties on February 12, 2007 and nationalized in the Cape Verde through Decree No. 2/2007 of 26 March. This Protocol, together with its Annex and Appendices, shall be valid for five years and shall apply provisionally from the date of signature. It lays down the conditions governing fishing by European Union vessels and the compensation due to Cape Verde, which undertakes to grant licenses to a total of 56 European Union vessels to fish in waters under its jurisdiction and shall receive a total compensation of around 3,900,000 (three million, nine hundred thousand euros) during the period covered by the Protocol. The fishing authorizations to be granted by Cape Verde are intended for the capture of highly migratory species listed in Annex I of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, within the limits set out in Appendix 2 of the Protocol, with the exception of species protected or prohibited under the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) or other international conventions.
