Recommendation GFCM/47/2024/2 on long-term measures for the sustainable exploitation of red coral, amending Recommendation GFCM/43/2019/4 and repealing Recommendations GFCM/45/2022/2 and GFCM/46/2023/13.

This Recommendation establishes long-term measures for the sustainable exploitation of red coral and makes amendments in the Recommendation GFCM/43/2019/4 on a management plan for the sustainable exploitation of red coral in the Mediterranean Sea. It amends Paragraph 11 of Recommendation GFCM/43/2019/4 as regards derogations from the minimum harvest depth; Paragraph 51 regarding reporting of data; and Paragraph 53 regarding the use of remotely operated vehicles for scientific purposes only. A second phase of the GFCM Research programme on red coral shall be launched by the GFCM in 2025 in accordance with the terms of reference in the annex to this Recommendation.
