This Greenland Home Rule regulation sets a detailed framework for managing crab fishing within Greenland’s territorial waters. It defines the geographical scope, licensing system, quotas, and restrictions for both large (≥75 BRT/120 BT) and small vessels, dividing West Greenland into several management areas with specific rules. Annual quotas are established and subdivided by fleet and region, with fishing bans applied when quotas are reached or when processing capacity is exceeded. Seasonal and area closures apply, including a ban north of 64°15'N from January to March and restrictions for larger vessels inside baselines between April and September. Only male crabs above 10 cm may be kept, while females and undersized crabs must be released, and crabs with Bitter Crab Disease must be landed. Fishing is limited to traps (tejner) with minimum mesh sizes and strict rules on trap numbers, marking, radar reflectors, and reporting obligations. Non-commercial fishing is permitted for residents with up to three traps. The regulation also grants enforcement powers to fisheries inspectors, police, and the Greenland Fisheries License Control, with penalties including fines, corporate liability, and possible license withdrawal.
