This Act promotes equality between women and men by prohibiting direct and indirect discrimination, harassment, and sexual harassment on the basis of gender, with specific protections linked to pregnancy, maternity, and adoption. It requires public authorities and larger employers to integrate equality into their work and report on gender distribution, ensures gender balance in public committees and boards, and guarantees equal treatment in employment, vocational training, and pay, including the principle of equal pay for equal work. The Act establishes the Gender Equality Council to oversee implementation and advise on equality measures, provides compensation and sanctions for violations, and shifts the burden of proof to employers in cases of alleged discrimination.
