This Law provides for measures regarding control and responsible ownership of pets in Delta State. The Law defines the following relevant terms: cat; certificate of vaccination; bitten; chief veterinary officer; dog; euthanasia; licence issuing authority; pets, as dogs and cats; post-exposure to rabies treatment; rabies; registered veterinary clinic; veterinary council of Nigeria; vaccination; stray pet; zoonosis. The Law concerns the following matters: licensing of pets; issuance and return of badges and microchips; responsibility of pet owners; impounding of stray pets; vaccination programmes; licensing of pet shops and pets breeding business; offences concerning pets licensing; organisation of pet shows and related events; pet bite and relating offences; cruelty treatment to pets; public and environmental health offences; transportation of pets; sale of pets and breeding business.
