The Resolution strengthens and consolidates previous shark conservation rules in the eastern Pacific Ocean. It requires all Commission Members and Cooperating Non-Members (CPCs) to prohibit shark finning, ensure sharks are landed with fins naturally attached, and fully utilize retained catches. The resolution introduces standardized bycatch handling and release procedures for purse-seine and longline vessels to improve shark survival and mandates CPCs to collect and report species-specific data on catches, trade, and releases. It also establishes a Shark Research Plan and priority species list to guide regional research and cooperation, including collaboration with the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission.
