This Strategy reflects the commitment of the Government of the Republic of Cyprus to the promotion and exploitation of research and innovation, as pillars of sustainable development, in order to contribute to the modernisation, attractiveness and competitiveness of the country. Thus, the main objective of the Strategy is to contribute to the economic development of the country, increasing the competitiveness of the economy and the attractiveness of Cyprus in the international environment as an investment and business destination. The Strategy specifies the following pillars: developing a world-class research infrastructures; connecting research and innovation with business; strengthening the creation and development of startup; supporting the improvement of the competitiveness of the agri-food sector, increasing the principles of agroecology and reducing the environmental footprint of agricultural development; developing investments in renewable energy sources; development and protection of the environment from economic and human activities and increasing climate change adaptation measures.
