2024–2030 Operations Emissions Reduction Plan.

The 2024–2030 Operations Emissions Reduction Plan sets out the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry’s pathway for reducing operational greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the Australian Government’s Net Zero in Government Operations Strategy. The Plan is intended to support the APS Net Zero 2030 target, which applies to scope 1 and scope 2 emissions from Australian Government operations within Australia and its territories. The Plan establishes the department’s operational context, noting its responsibilities in agriculture, fisheries, forestry, biosecurity, trade and sustainability, and recognises the need to reduce operational emissions while continuing to deliver its regulatory, scientific and policy functions. It identifies the department’s 2022–23 baseline emissions as the reference point against which reductions will be measured, focusing on scope 1 and scope 2 emissions. The Plan identifies operational priorities and actions for emissions reduction, including solar photovoltaic installations, procurement of renewable electricity, transition of passenger fleet vehicles to low-emission vehicles, sustainable procurement, LED lighting upgrades, further solar feasibility assessments and installations, and planning for degasification and electrification. It also sets out specific implementation commitments for buildings, electricity and fleet, including meeting applicable NABERS and Green Star requirements, supporting electric vehicle charging, participating in whole-of-government electricity procurement, procuring all-electric office space where available from 1 July 2026, and ensuring that 75% of all new passenger vehicle orders are low-emission vehicles by 30 June 2025. Progress under the Plan is to be reflected in departmental annual reports and whole-of-government emissions reporting.
