The Western Mediterranean Basin Water Allocation Plan (SSTP) has been developed to ensure the sustainable and equitable allocation of water resources across the basin and its sub-basins, balancing current and future water demands among all sectors. The Plan takes into account socio-economic conditions, development needs, and available water resources to support fair water distribution and long-term water security. The allocation status will be defined according to the sectoral needs. To this end, water will be allocated in order of potable water, environmental water needs, agriculture, industry, energy, mining, livestock, fisheries and aquaculture, tourism, packaged water, and other sectors, such as forestry.
