This Law establishes guidelines for the State Programme for the Protection of Rural Workers’ Health in the State of Paraíba, with a particular focus on preventing skin cancer caused by prolonged exposure to sunlight during agricultural and rural activities. Its main objective is to promote preventive health measures among rural workers through awareness-raising initiatives on the importance of sunscreen use and other protective practices when working outdoors. The programme seeks to reduce the incidence of skin cancer and improve occupational health conditions in rural areas. To achieve these objectives, the law provides for educational and awareness campaigns, encourages specialized medical examinations for the early detection of skin cancer, and promotes public debate and cooperation among civil society organizations, universities, medical institutions, trade unions, NGOs, and research bodies. It also supports scientific and technological research related to skin cancer prevention and control, including research on sunscreen production. Furthermore, the law calls for the dissemination of information through the media and community outreach activities aimed at informing rural populations about the risks associated with sun exposure.
