Kanchibiya District Integrated Development Plan (2024-2033).

The Kanchibiya District Integrated Development Plan 2024–2033 (Citizens Version) establishes a ten-year framework for the socio-economic, environmental and spatial development of Kanchibiya District in Zambia. The Plan, prepared under Zambia’s decentralization and development planning framework, aligns district-level priorities with the Eighth National Development Plan and organizes interventions under four strategic pillars: economic transformation and job creation, human and social development, environmental sustainability, and good governance. It identifies development needs, investment opportunities, and sector-specific actions across agriculture, livestock and fisheries, commerce and trade, transport and communications, tourism, energy, health, education, water and sanitation, housing, social protection, forestry, and governance. Planned measures include improving agricultural productivity, fisheries and livestock services, infrastructure, access to health care and education, water supply and sanitation, social protection programmes, forest conservation, climate change mitigation, and institutional capacity. The Plan places particular emphasis on the development of agriculture, fisheries, livestock, forestry, water resources, and rural infrastructure as key drivers of economic growth and food security. It promotes sustainable natural resource management through measures aimed at forest conservation, reforestation, climate change mitigation, and watershed protection. The document further outlines actions to strengthen agricultural extension services, irrigation infrastructure, aquaculture development, livestock health services, and market access for producers. In addition, it identifies opportunities for investment in agriculture, aquaculture, forestry value chains, renewable energy, agro-processing industries, and rural infrastructure to support sustainable livelihoods and inclusive local development. The Plan also provides strategies for resource mobilization, revenue enhancement, participatory governance, and citizen engagement to support sustainable development and poverty reduction in the district.
