The Statement of Strategy 2025–2028 establishes the strategic framework of Ireland’s Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine for 2025–2028. Its vision is to support sustainable, innovative and competitive agri-food, forestry and seafood sectors through policy development, regulation, financial support and engagement at national, European Union and international levels. The Strategy is aligned with the Programme for Government and informed by Food Vision 2030, the Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan, the Forestry Programme and the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund Operational Programme. The Strategy contains five goals addressing sustainable agri-food and forestry development; public, animal and plant health and animal welfare; farming incomes and rural vitality; sustainable fisheries, aquaculture and seafood; and departmental operational excellence. Priority actions include influencing future EU agricultural and fisheries policies, implementing climate and biodiversity commitments, improving agricultural water quality, supporting forestry and the bioeconomy, strengthening food and feed controls, addressing animal and plant diseases, combating antimicrobial resistance, reinforcing animal-welfare enforcement and maintaining access to international markets. Further measures seek to provide timely farm-income support, promote generational renewal and diversified climate-smart income, encourage afforestation and support rural and coastal communities. Fisheries actions include protecting quota shares, promoting sustainable fish stocks, developing a post-2027 seafood programme, reforming aquaculture licensing and preparing a five-year fisheries strategy. Institutional priorities include digital services, responsible artificial intelligence and data governance, cybersecurity, financial accountability, workforce development, equality and inclusion, research and innovation, and implementation of commitments concerning horticulture, organics, renewable energy, farm safety, food production and processing.
