The Act establishes the legal framework for fire protection in the Canton of Schwyz, covering preventive fire safety measures, firefighting services, emergency response, and the organisation of municipal, industrial and specialised fire brigades. It assigns responsibilities to cantonal and municipal authorities, regulates fire safety requirements for buildings and installations, and provides for inspections, permits, maintenance obligations, and enforcement measures. The Act also governs firefighting infrastructure, including water supplies for fire suppression, and authorises fire services to respond to environmental emergencies such as oil spills, chemical incidents, radiation hazards, and water pollution events. In addition, it establishes rules on firefighter obligations, financing mechanisms, training, and penalties for non-compliance with fire protection requirements.
