Crocodile Husbandry Regulations, 2019.

This Regulation establishes a comprehensive licensing and certification framework for the captive breeding, farming, management, possession, transfer, transport, import and export of crocodiles and crocodile products in Bangladesh. The instrument defines the responsibilities of breeders and farm operators, sets conditions for obtaining and renewing licences, and regulates the registration and monitoring of crocodile farms. Its principal objective is to ensure that crocodile breeding and commercial utilisation are conducted in a controlled, traceable and environmentally responsible manner, consistent with national wildlife conservation requirements and international obligations, including those associated with CITES. The Regulation further provides detailed procedures for inspections, record-keeping, identification and marking of crocodiles and crocodile products, issuance of possession certificates, and authorisation of the import and export of specimens and products. It empowers the competent authorities to supervise breeding facilities, enforce compliance, and impose sanctions for violations. By establishing standards for husbandry, conservation, reporting and trade controls, the Regulation seeks both to support sustainable crocodile farming as an economic activity and to safeguard crocodile populations through effective regulation, monitoring and law enforcement.
