National Gender Policy 2025.

This National Gender Policy (2025–2030) provides a comprehensive framework for advancing gender equality, social inclusion and the empowerment of women and girls as a foundation for inclusive wealth creation and sustainable development. The policy seeks to address persistent gender inequalities in education, economic participation, health, governance, access to productive resources, and decision-making, while responding to emerging challenges such as migration, climate change, disaster risk management, digital exclusion and cyber-related gender-based violence. Aligned with the Constitution of Malawi, the Malawi 2063 development agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals, CEDAW and other international commitments, the policy aims to strengthen gender mainstreaming and promote gender-transformative actions across all sectors to ensure that women, men, girls and boys participate equally in national development processes. The policy establishes nine priority areas: gender in economic development; education and training; health; social protection; migration; disaster risk management and climate change; sexual and gender-based violence; governance and human rights; and strengthening the National Gender Machinery. It promotes women’s economic empowerment, increased access to education and STEM fields, improved sexual and reproductive health and rights, prevention and response to gender-based violence, gender-responsive climate and disaster governance, and greater participation of women in political and public decision-making. The policy further sets out implementation, monitoring and resource mobilisation mechanisms for the period 2025–2030, with the overall goal of reducing gender inequalities and enhancing the meaningful participation of women, men, girls and boys in Malawi’s socio-economic development and climate-resilience efforts.
