Iceland's Biodiversity Strategy 2030.

This strategy establishes Iceland’s national policy framework for the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of biodiversity up to 2030. It aligns national action with the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, setting targets to protect 30 percent of terrestrial, freshwater and marine areas and to actively restore 30 percent of degraded ecosystems by 2030. The strategy promotes an ecosystem-based approach to land-use planning, fisheries, aquaculture, agriculture, forestry, water management, energy development and other natural resource uses, integrating biodiversity considerations into public decision-making. It contains measures for the conservation of ecosystems, species and genetic diversity, the management of invasive alien species, the reduction of pollution, and the integration of biodiversity and climate-change policies. The strategy further emphasizes ecosystem restoration, sustainable resource use, marine and freshwater conservation, environmental education, research and monitoring, public participation, and the contribution of biodiversity to ecosystem services, human well-being and public health. It also identifies institutional responsibilities and provides a framework for the future development of an implementation action plan.
