These Regulations are made under the Environmental Protection and Preservation Act (No. 4/93). They establish guidelines, procedures, and formulas for calculating fines and determining compensation for environmental damage in the Maldives. They require parties responsible for causing environmental damage (or potential damage) to take immediate action to prevent or mitigate further harm. The powers of the environmental inspectors are laid down. Fines calculated under this regulation must be settled with the enforcement agency within 30 days.
