Italy participates in the temporary experiment organized at Community level by the European Commission with a view to assessing whether seed sampling and seed testing under official supervision may constitute improved alternatives to the official seed certification regime established by Directives 66/400/EEC, 66/401/EEC, 66/402/EEC and 69/208/EEC. The experimentation shall be performed from the control campaign of 1999/2000 until 30 June 2002. Seed sampling shall be carried out by personnel authorized by administrative provision of the Ministry for Agricultural Policies. Seed testing, on the other hand, shall be carried out by laboratories pertaining to enterprises which have been granted the licence required for seed production for marketing purposes. Annex I to this Decree lays down the requirements to be met by laboratories. The Ministry for Agricultural Policies shall annually inform the European Commission on the results of the experimentation.
