This Act concerns all forestry activities in New South Wales. The Act repeals the Forestry Act 1909 but all licences and rights granted under that Act are continued in force and all regulation made under that Act shall apply as if made under this Act (sect. 3). Under section 5, the Governor shall appoint a Forestry Commission and its objectives are listed under section 8. Under section 9, for the purpose of the Act, the State shall be divided into inspectoral districts and sylvicultural matters for specific areas are addressed in the Act. Part 2 is dedicated to State forests, timber reserves and flora reserves and provides for the classification of such areas and for their management. Part 3 covers the taking of timber, forest products and forest materials and regulates the related licensing procedures and royalties issues. Part 4 concerns permits and forest leases and Part 4A covers carbon sequestration rights. Other provisions concern regulation and enforcement of the Act.
