This Ordinance makes provision for the establishment, registration, operation and management of Cooperative Societies in Hong Kong. The Ordinance empowers the Chief Executive to appoint a person to be the Registrar of Cooperative Societies for the registration and control of registered societies. The Ordinance also sets out criteria and conditions for registration of cooperative societies. The Ordinance further provides for: privileges and duties of cooperative societies; rights and liabilities of members of cooperative societies; property and funds of registered societies; audit, inspection and inquiry of registered societies; dissolution of registered societies; settlement of disputes; rule making powers of the Chief Executive; penalties; etc.
