The Nature Recovery Plan for Wales is a cross-sectoral policy. The timeframe of the Plan is 5 years between 2015 and 2020. The objectives of the Plan are to (i) engage and support participation and understanding to embed biodiversity throughout decision making at all levels, (ii) safeguard species and habitats of principal importance and improve their management, (iii) increase the resilience of the natural environment by restoring degraded habitats and habitat creation, (iv) tackle key pressures on species and habitats, (v) improve the evidence, understanding and monitoring, and (vi) put in place a framework of governance and support for delivery. Biodiversity conservation and ecosystem preservation will be ensured in both the terrestrial and marine environments. The Good Environmental Status of Welsh seas by 2020 will be achieved by protecting and restoring the marine environment, preventing its decline, and using marine resources sustainably. Protected species and habitats will be safeguarded to ensure their sustainability. Species and habitats of principal importance will be listed for the purpose of maintaining and enhancing biodiversity. Biodiversity conservation will be embedded into decision making processes at all levels to improve the environmental, as well as the economic, cultural and social well-being of Wales. Effective participation of marine and fisheries stakeholders will be encouraged to support and inform delivery of the Marine Transition Programme. Sustainable management of natural resources will be ensured to meet the needs of present and future generations by restoring the degraded ecosystems, maintaining and enhancing the resilience of ecosystems and the benefits they provide and to prevent biodiversity loss. The role of ecosystem services will be emphasized within the decision-making process to deliver multiple social, economic and environmental benefits over the long-term. Public awareness will be raised on biodiversity, ecosystem functioning, species, habitats and their protection. The status and trends in biodiversity will be monitored and accessible and reliable data will be gathered from land managers. Marine planning will be conducted in cooperation with the Wales Marine Strategic Advisory Group, Welsh Marine Fisheries Advisory Group, the Inshore Fisheries Groups, and the Marine Planning Stakeholder Reference Group, to achieve sustainable fisheries management and sustainable use of marine resources. The diversity of marine habitats will be conserved with a special emphasis on the sustainability of species that are of importance locally, nationally and internationally. An ecologically coherent network of Marine Protected Areas will be managed to protect the range of habitats and species. Institutional capacity building will be enhanced for the effective biodiversity conservation. Measures will be taken to reduce pressure on species and habitats due to the adverse environmental impacts arising from climate change, pollution, invasive alien species, flood, soil erosion etc. To this end, Environmental Impact Assessment will be carried out to assess the environmental status of terrestrial and marine environment.
