Vision of the National Strategy for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation, Conservation of Forests and Increase of Carbon Reserves Through Forests (REDD+) 2016-2030: A society that values its natural capital and recognizes the contribution of environmental services to the social, economic and environmental well-being of current and future generations at local, national and global levels. General Strategic Objective is: Promotion of integrated multisectoral interventions to reduce carbon emissions associated with the use and changes in land use and cover through adherence to the principles of sustainable management of forest ecosystems (natural and planted) contributing to global efforts to mitigate and adaptation to climate change and integrated and sustainable rural development. Mission: The current REDD+ strategy aims to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, improve conservation of forest ecosystems and increase forest carbon reserves. Strategic Objectives: Objective 1 – Inter-institutional coordination and transversal actions: establish an institutional and legal platform for inter-institutional coordination that ensures the reduction of deforestation; Objective 2– Agriculture: to promote sustainable alternative practices to shifting agriculture, which ensure increased productivity of subsistence and cash crops. Objective 3 – Energy: increase access to alternative sources to biomass in urban areas and increase the efficiency of production and use of energy from biomass. Objective 4 – Conservation Areas: strengthen the system of conservation areas and find safe ways to generate income. Objective 5– Sustainable Forest Management: promote the system of forest concessions, community management and strengthen forest governance. Objective 6– Restoration of degraded forests and tree planting: establish a favorable environment for increasing planted area, forestry businesses, restoring natural forests and planting trees for various purposes.
