This Law establishes the structure of the national metrology system, the units of measurement permitted for use in the Republic of Moldova, the principles of management in the field of metrology, the categories of applicable regulations in the field of legal metrology, as well as the requirements for measuring instruments and measurements in areas of public interest. It determines the procedure for implementing legislative metrological control of measuring instruments and measurements in areas of public interest, packaged products and bottles used as measuring containers, and also establishes the responsibilities of natural persons and legal entities involved in the field of legal metrology. Packaged products shall be intended a combination of goods with individual packaging in which they are packed. A product is packaged if it is placed in any packaging without buyer, and the quantity of goods contained in the package has a predetermined value and cannot be changed without opening the packaging or visibly altering it. Packaged products and bottles used as measuring containers are subject to legislative metrological control in accordance with the provisions of this Law. Packaged products with liquid contents must be labelled with the indication of nominal volume of products, and for packaged products with other contents - indication of nominal weight. Legal entities that carry out packaging of products, manufacturing and/or import of bottles used as measuring containers, before starting the relevant activity in order to obtain a technical conclusion on registration, are required to register with the National Institute of Metrology, providing information about the brand that will allow them to be identified.
