These Rules are framed in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (c) of section 72 of the Meghalaya Forest Regulation (Assam Forest Regulations, 1891 as applied to Meghalaya). The Divisional Forest Officer or any person in charge of a forest division may eject any person who has entered into unauthorised occupation of land in a reserved forest. Any crops raised, building or construction erected on the land without authority may be sold, confiscated or destroyed by the officer.
