Order of the Chief Sanitary Inspector validating Methodical Instructions MUK 4.2.1890-04 “Determination of the sensitivity of microorganisms to antibacterial drugs.”

These Methodical Instructions outline standard methods for determining the sensitivity of microorganisms to antibacterial drugs (serial dilution methods and disk diffusion method). The guidelines are intended for use in microbiological laboratories of state sanitary-epidemiological service and healthcare institutions. Epidemiological surveillance of the emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance is not limited only to the sphere of medical practice. Similar epidemiological studies of the spread of antimicrobial resistance can be carried out in bacteria whose resistance may pose a potential threat to humans, isolated from environmental objects, from farm animals, from food, etc. Epidemiological surveillance of antimicrobial resistance is a systematic ongoing process of collecting data and data analysis to quantify the prevalence of antibiotic resistance and its temporal dynamics. The purpose of antimicrobial resistance surveillance is to obtain information necessary to develop and implement more effective approaches to treating infections and curbing the emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistance at local, regional, national and international levels. Recommendations for surveillance of antibiotic resistance have been developed by WHO and the Study Group of the European Society of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases.
