Climate Change Adaptation in SADC. A Strategy for the Water Sector.

This strategy aims to improve climate resilience in Southern Africa through integrated and adapted water resources management at regional, river basin and local levels. It focuses on implementing "no-regret" and "low-regret" adaptation measures. The strategy is structured around three main areas of intervention: water governance, infrastructure development, and water management. Key objectives include raising awareness, building capacity, developing climate-resilient infrastructure, improving water supply and sanitation, enhancing irrigation systems, protecting against floods, optimizing dam operations, and promoting integrated water resources management. Implementation will occur primarily through the SADC Regional Strategic Action Plan. The strategy emphasizes a multi-stakeholder approach and calls for coordinated action at regional, river basin and local levels to address the water-related impacts of climate change in Southern Africa.
