This Law creates the State Policy for Community-Based Tourism, in line with the Strategic Tourism Development Plan for the State of Maranhão. The objectives of this policy are: to encourage community-based tourism, through the promotion of strong economic development among family groups and communities, through participatory planning, management of natural resources and cultural valorisation; start using environmental resources and maintain essential ecological processes; respect the socio-cultural authenticity of the ancient communities, as well as their traditional values; ensure long-term economic activities that offer socio-economic benefits distributed in an equitable way; promoting hosting communities to enable a meaningful experience for tourists; promoting the capture of income by community-based tourism entrepreneurs; promote taxation and social control of the policy with participation in established councils relating to rural livelihood development and traditional people and communities, etc.
