Annex 1 of Recommendation 16-05 on the Mediterranean swordfish ICCAT Scheme of Joint International Inspection is being revised to include a new subparagraph under Section I, paragraph 1 on Serious Violations, and to amend Section II, paragraph 9 on the Conduct of Inspections. The recommendation provides two parts on I.Serious violations and II. Conduct of inspections and outlines that a serious violation now includes not providing inspectors with a proper boarding ladder as per IMO standards. Fishing vessels must stop when signaled, allow boarding, and ensure safe access for inspectors. Inspectors can check equipment, catch, gear, and documents to verify compliance.
