This Aquaculture Action Plan provides for improving research and delivering information and technologies that improve domestic aquaculture production efficiency and product quality while minimising impacts on natural resources. The Action Plan highlights the following outcomes of aquaculture research: sustaining aquaculture production while maintaining healthy and productive freshwater, coastal, and marine ecosystems; protecting special aquatic areas; restoring population of endangered species; restoring and conserving freshwater, coastal, and marine habitats; creating employment and business opportunities in rural inland, coastal, and urban communities; enabling the production of safe and sustainably produced seafood and other products. The Action Plan details the following research components: 1) improving the efficiency and sustainability of catfish aquaculture; 2) improving the efficiency and sustainability of salmonid aquaculture; 3) improving the efficiency and sustainability of bass and baitfish aquaculture; 4) enhancing molluscan and crustacean aquaculture; 5) developing marine finfish seed-stocks; 6) developing sustainable aquaponic production system; 7) enhancing tilapia aquaculture production and reducing the impact of disease in tilapia aquaculture.
