This Africa CDC Climate Change and Health Strategic Framework (2025–2029) provides a roadmap for addressing the growing health impacts of climate change across Africa. It highlights the continent’s vulnerability to climate-related health risks such as vector-borne diseases, waterborne illnesses, food and nutrition insecurity, heat waves, and airborne diseases. The framework emphasizes the One Health approach, integrating human, animal, and environmental health, and sets guiding principles including equity, community engagement, partnerships, and evidence-based interventions. It aims to strengthen health systems, improve disease surveillance, and enhance resilience through governance, capacity building, risk communication, emergency preparedness, research, and innovative financing. The Strategic Framework prioritizes five critical climate-related health vulnerabilities: vector-borne and zoonotic diseases, waterborne diseases, food and nutrition insecurity, heat waves and extreme temperatures, and airborne diseases. To address these, the framework is built on seven strategic pillars: governance and leadership to integrate climate considerations into health policies; capacity building for health professionals and institutions; risk communication and community engagement to raise awareness and foster local participation; public health emergency and disaster response through early warning systems and preparedness; research, innovation, and data for evidence-based interventions; innovative financing to secure sustainable resources; and national health systems strengthening to develop climate-smart infrastructure and stockpile essential medical supplies.
