The PNAP 2024–2028 envisions “a nation protected against the threats of antimicrobial resistance,” and its mission is to implement an integrated, comprehensive, and sustainable national program that safeguards human and animal health while minimizing disruptions to agriculture, food, and the environment. The plan sets concrete targets for 2028, such as reducing carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales and other high-risk drug-resistant infections by 10%, bringing down AMR-related deaths, formalizing environmental sector roles, and strengthening water and sanitation in healthcare facilities. Its Monitoring & Evaluation Framework is designed to track progress rigorously through measurable indicators, ensuring accountability across the sectors and guiding the implementation of its multi-year goals. To achieve these goals, the PNAP outlines seven key strategies under a One Health approach. First, it prioritizes multi-sectoral governance and accountability, engaging stakeholders from public, private, and civil society sectors to commit to the national AMR agenda. Second, it strengthens surveillance and laboratory capacity, enabling integrated data collection across human, animal, and environmental health. Third, the plan ensures continuous access to safe, quality-assured antimicrobials, while fourth it promotes the rational use of these drugs through regulatory and stewardship interventions. Fifth, it enforces infection prevention and regulatory measures to curb drug-resistant infections. Sixth, the strategy encourages innovation and research through investments and partnerships, and finally, it boosts awareness and education about AMR using established programs across all sectors.
