Law No. 89 creating the State Forestry Institute.

This Law creates the State Forestry Institute (Instituto Estadual de Florestas – IEF) in the State of Rondônia, with the primary objective of implementing and coordinating policies for the conservation, preservation, and sustainable use of forest resources. The institute is created as an autonomous public entity with technical, administrative, and financial independence, tasked with formulating and executing the state’s forest policy in alignment with national legislation. Its mandate includes activities such as forest and wildlife inventory, environmental education, promotion of reforestation, management of conservation units, and assessment of environmental impacts associated with development projects. In addition, the law aims to strengthen institutional capacity for environmental management and sustainable resource use by assigning the institute responsibilities in research, monitoring, enforcement, and technical assistance to forest‑related activities. It supports the development of agroforestry systems, restoration of degraded areas, and the regulation of economic activities involving forest products, while also establishing financing mechanisms through public resources, environmental fees, and other revenues.
