The Kapiri Mposhi Integrated Development Plan (2023–2032), prepared under the Urban and Regional Planning Act No. 3 of 2015, provides a multi-sectoral framework for sustainable socio-economic development of the district. The plan includes measures relevant to FAO’s mandate, notably the promotion of sustainable agriculture, irrigation development, conservation farming, livestock and fisheries services, afforestation, community forest management, water resource development, and climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction. It also addresses environmental protection, sanitation, solid waste management, and the sustainable management of natural resources, including forests, rivers and wetlands. The plan establishes sector-specific investment priorities, implementation arrangements, and monitoring indicators, while identifying the roles of local authorities, government institutions, utilities and development partners. As a local planning instrument, it is intended to guide coordinated development, resource allocation and implementation of priority actions to improve livelihoods, environmental sustainability and resilience in the district.
