The Mkushi District Integrated Development Plan (2024–2034), prepared under the Urban and Regional Planning Act No. 3 of 2015, provides a comprehensive framework for guiding sustainable development, investment and service delivery in Mkushi District in alignment with Zambia’s Vision 2030 and Eighth National Development Plan. The Plan assesses the district’s socio-economic, environmental and spatial conditions, identifying challenges related to infrastructure, agricultural productivity, natural resource management, forestry, water and sanitation, health, education and local economic development. It establishes strategic priorities focused on infrastructure improvement, enhanced social services, food and nutrition security, agricultural development, fisheries, livestock, mining regulation, environmental protection and value addition, supported by detailed programmes, investment plans and measurable targets. The Plan also incorporates a Spatial Development Framework, land-use planning measures, implementation arrangements, financing strategies, and monitoring and evaluation mechanisms. Cross-cutting themes include climate change resilience, sustainable natural resource management, gender equality, inclusion of vulnerable groups, stakeholder participation and partnerships with public and private actors to promote sustainable district development.
