The ordinance implements federal legislation on wine production and viticulture, defining cantonal responsibilities for harvest control, vineyard registration, and authorisation of new plantings; it sets procedures for planting approvals, renewal notifications, and maintenance of the vineyard cadastre, with small private plantings up to 400 m² exempt from permits. It establishes the rules for the Appenzell Innerrhoden AOC (Controlled Designation of Origin), including geographic origin (minimum 90% local grapes), authorised grape varieties, cultivation methods, minimum natural sugar content, maximum yields, and legally permitted vinification processes. It further regulates analytical and organoleptic testing of AOC wines, sample collection, cost allocation, and withdrawal of the designation for defective wines, and allows additional geographic indications.
