This Order establishes four locally based coastal water councils for selected coastal-water catchments in Denmark (including Ringkøbing Fjord, Odense Fjord, Hjarbæk Fjord and the Wadden Sea areas) to advise municipalities on the preparation of supplementary measures for the 2021–2027 water management planning cycle. The councils, composed of representatives of relevant organisations and associations, may analyse the principal challenges affecting coastal waters and develop proposals for programmes of measures aimed at achieving environmental objectives for those waters. The Order regulates the establishment, composition and operation of the councils, designates the municipalities responsible for secretariat and coordination functions, requires submission of the councils’ recommendations to the Environmental Protection Agency by the end of 2023, and provides a temporary grant scheme to cover municipal costs associated with the councils’ work.
