This Decree establishes the Water Crisis Task Force for the State of Acre. Its principal objective is to address the consequences of reduced rainfall, declining watercourses and the increased risk of forest fires by coordinating governmental responses to actual and potential damages arising from these environmental conditions. The Decree creates a dedicated institutional mechanism to monitor evolving circumstances and to organise preventive and remedial actions aimed at mitigating the impacts of water scarcity and associated environmental emergencies. The Decree further seeks to strengthen interagency cooperation by bringing together key state entities responsible for civil defence, environmental protection, public health, social assistance, climate change, water services and public security. The Water Crisis Cabinet is empowered to monitor, mobilise and coordinate the activities of public bodies, establish technical working groups, promote discussions with public and private stakeholders, and adopt measures necessary to reduce the adverse effects of drought conditions and forest-fire risks. The Decree also provides the governance framework for the Cabinet’s operation and revokes the previous decree governing the same matter.
