Decree No. 5.286 creating the Acre State Commission for Environmental Risk Management (CEGdRA).

This Decree creates the State Environmental Risk Management Commission of Acre (CEGdRA), linked to the State Secretariat for the Environment, with the principal objective of proposing, coordinating and evaluating programmes, actions and activities aimed at preventing, controlling and mitigating the impacts of environmental risks. The Decree responds to growing concerns regarding floods, uncontrolled burning, forest fires, severe droughts, deforestation, accidents involving hazardous chemicals and other environmental emergencies arising from human activities, natural disasters and the effects of global climate change. It also seeks to strengthen cooperation and integration among public authorities, private entities and civil society in the management of environmental risks and emergency preparedness. The Decree further defines the institutional framework and responsibilities of CEGdRA, bringing together a broad range of state, federal, municipal and research institutions to coordinate environmental risk governance. Its main functions include developing operational procedures and protocols, promoting technical training, establishing programmes for prevention, preparedness and rapid response, improving environmental information systems, mapping areas vulnerable to environmental accidents, and ensuring public access to information on risk management activities. The Commission is organised through specialised technical chambers dedicated to hazardous chemicals, forest fires and deforestation, and floods, thereby enhancing the State’s capacity to anticipate, prevent and respond effectively to environmental emergencies.
