The National Poultry Development Policy 2026 seeks to establish a modern, sustainable and biosecure poultry sector capable of contributing to food security, economic growth and employment generation in Bangladesh. Its principal objectives are to increase the production of eggs, meat and other poultry products; ensure the availability of safe, high-quality animal protein; strengthen poultry feed self-sufficiency; promote the conservation and development of climate-resilient and indigenous poultry breeds; improve disease prevention, veterinary services and vaccination programmes; and encourage the participation of women, youth and small-scale farmers in poultry production. The policy also emphasises research, innovation, training, entrepreneurship development and environmentally sound farming practices, including waste management and the responsible use of medicines and antibiotics. The policy further aims to improve the regulation, marketing and competitiveness of the poultry value chain through quality control measures, price and market monitoring, strengthened biosecurity standards, enhanced laboratory and surveillance systems, and the expansion of processing, storage and export facilities. It promotes investment in poultry-related industries, supports the development of value-added products, encourages domestic production of vaccines and feed inputs, and establishes institutional mechanisms for monitoring and implementation. By replacing the 2008 poultry policy framework, it seeks to create a resilient, internationally competitive and export-oriented poultry industry that safeguards public health, animal health and consumer interests while supporting sustainable rural development.
