NBSAP III Gender Action Plan 2025-2030.

The NBSAP III Gender Action Plan 2025–2030 has been developed to support the implementation of Lesotho’s Third National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP III) by systematically integrating gender equality into biodiversity conservation, sustainable use, and benefit-sharing. Recognising that women and girls often face unequal access to land, water, natural resources, decision-making processes, and economic opportunities, the Plan seeks to remove structural and cultural barriers that limit their participation in environmental governance. It is aligned with the Convention on Biological Diversity Gender Action Plan 2022–2030, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, Lesotho’s Gender and Development Policy 2018–2030, and other national and international gender and biodiversity commitments. The Plan establishes four strategic components: promoting equal opportunities and capacity-building for women and girls; ensuring inclusive biodiversity policy, planning and decision-making; strengthening knowledge generation and sharing through gender-disaggregated biodiversity data; and developing a robust monitoring and evaluation framework. Key actions include improving women’s access to natural resources, strengthening leadership and participation in biodiversity governance, addressing gender-based violence linked to biodiversity management, supporting women’s organisations, generating evidence on gender impacts, and integrating gender-responsive budgeting and financial tracking mechanisms.
