Trade Policy 2081 (2024-25).

This Trade Policy 2081 (2024-25), with the overarching aim of increasing the contribution of the trade sector to economic prosperity by developing a capable and competitive commercial sector. The Policy expressly repeals the previous Trade Policy 2072 and seeks to increase the production and productivity of goods and services, promote exports while managing imports so as to reduce the trade imbalance, strengthen trade-related infrastructure and competitiveness, and improve Nepalese goods and services’ access to international markets. It also aims to strengthen supply chains and reduce trade costs, expand industrial and commercial infrastructure, promote e-commerce and digital trade, and enhance policy, legal and institutional coordination at national and international levels. The Policy sets out an extensive range of measures to diversify exports and markets, strengthen export-oriented industries, improve product quality and certification systems, and integrate Nepalese producers into regional and global value chains. It promotes trade facilitation, logistics and transport infrastructure, bilateral, regional and multilateral trade agreements, intellectual property protection, geographical indications, technology and innovation, and cooperation between federal, provincial and local authorities and the private sector. It also addresses agriculture, forestry and other natural-resource-based products, environmental sustainability, biodiversity, women’s participation in trade, small and cottage enterprises, and resilient trade arrangements, while providing for implementation, institutional arrangements, monitoring and evaluation of the Policy.
