The National Knowledge-Based Food Security Document establishes Iran’s strategic framework for achieving food security through sustainable domestic production, knowledge, technology and improved productivity. It addresses the four pillars of food security: food availability, access to food, food consumption and safety, and stability and resilience. The Document promotes self-sufficiency in strategic agricultural products and inputs, development of agricultural value chains, investment, research, innovation, smart and digital agriculture and reduction of food losses and waste. It provides measures for sustainable crop, livestock, poultry, fisheries and aquaculture development, including responsible fishing, conservation of aquatic genetic resources and development of aquaculture value chains. The Document also promotes equitable physical and economic access to adequate and healthy food, improved nutrition and protection of vulnerable groups. Emphasis is placed on sustainable management of water and soil resources, efficient irrigation, watershed and aquifer management, groundwater balance and the use of non-conventional water resources. Implementation is accompanied by institutional coordination, monitoring, evaluation and defined national actions and indicators aimed at strengthening sustainable and knowledge-based food security.
